The Sins of the Father
It is a pity that the Archbishop of Canterbury has chosen to focus on statues and Jesus’s skin colour rather than on such pressing issues as: FGM, child & forced marriages, starving children in the Yemen and the persecution & murder of Christians from Africa to the Far East. Although I am far from being a theologian, it seems inherently anti-Christian to suggest that forgiveness is contingent upon retrospective justice. How far back into history does the Archbishop feel we should trawl for sins? As I understand the Bible (both in Deuteronomy and Numbers), it suggests that punishment for the sins of the father should only extend to the third and fourth generation; that period has long since expired in the context of the Slave Trade.
