For those of us who would wish to see our defence capability return to a semblance of credibility, there is a dilemma. Do we support Labour, who are promising jam tomorrow; the Conservatives, who ate the jam and failed to order any more; the Greens, who want jam taken off the menu; Reform, who want jam but don’t know how to pay for it; or the Liberal Democrats, who aren’t sure what jam is for? One thing seems sure: those seeking to take advantage of our dire situation must be absolutely delighted to see us failing to get a grip.
